In a time when teaching from the Papal authority was seen to be the only teaching that was acceptable this commentary would have come in force. One of the key aspects of Hebrews that Calvin tackles is the priesthood of Christ and his role as high priest and not the Papal state instituted by the Catholic Church. While many other key instructions are pulled from the book of the letter to the Hebrews, Calvin consistently pulls teaching from all over the protestant faith to make a clear and concise teaching that corrects many of the failures of the Roman Catholic Church in days of the Reformation.… (mer)

(Pages 284–285)
