The Last Summer (of You and Me)/Ann Brashares Brashares is one of those few authors who can really capture the emotion of love and have your stomach twisted up with the intensity of the emotion she portrays. This is a very simple book with a very simple plot. I doubt it's intended to have one thinking after the end. It's very well done and its purpose is well served. I was captivated by this book the whole way through. The two main characters do get together quickly, which gave me a feeling of dread--I knew something bad had to be coming, and I was right. The characters were well developed and easy to imagine. I didn't understand the reasoning behind a few of the decisions characters made, but I could understand their sentiment. It's a very nostalgic book and made me feel sad, too, at the way experiences change as we grow older. The emotions were captured very well and the way our main characters, even as they grew older, held on to their roots was very touching.I recommend this book to anyone looking for a distraction from the real world. This has such real emotions, and captured the emotion of yearning love, the way you feel when you first fall in love and the way that lasting love feels, in the way that few can. ( ) Maybe it's the mountain of lackluster novels I've trudged through recently, but I found myself to be very forgiving of this book. It started strong and I couldn't put it down. Then at the halfway point I was prepared to walk away. Our three protagonists all became absolute idiots and made a big deal a mountain of trouble. It was dumb. Luckily Brashares was able to reel it all back in and end on a high note. The Last Summer redeemed itself. This is by far one of my favorite books ever. I had checked it out, on a whim, from my local library a few years ago. I didn't put it down once I began it. It was beyond good. I then checked it out multiple times over the next few years, as a re-read. Then, I magically found it while on a typical book thrift- I was so excited!! Reading it again, I felt the same way I had as the first time I read it. It's beautifully written, I would expect no less from Ann Brashares. It's a story of family, first love, heartbreak, selflessness, and sisterhood. Be prepared to have your tissues ready, because you will definitely need them!! inga recensioner | lägg till en recension

HTML:Set against the vivid backdrop of Waterby on Fire Island, THE LAST SUMMER (OF YOU AND ME) is the heartrending story of a beach-community friendship triangle among three young adults for whom summer and this place have meant everything. Sisters Riley and Alice, now in their twenties, have been returning to their parents' modest beach house every summer for their entire lives. Petite, tenacious Riley is a tomboy and a lifeguard, always ready for a midnight swim or a gale-force sail. Beautiful Alice is lithe, gentle, a reader and a thinker, and worshipful of her older sister. And every summer growing up, in the big house that overshadowed their humble one, there was Paul, a friend as important to both girls as the place itself, who has now finally returned to the island after three years away. But his return marks a season of tremendous change, and when a simmering attraction, a serious illness, and a deep secret all collide, the three friends are launched into an unfamiliar adult world, a world from which their summer haven can no longer protect them. With warmth, humor, and wisdom, Brashares makes us feel the excruciating joys and pangs of loveâ??both platonic and romantic. Thoughtful, lyrical, and tremendously moving, THE LAST SUMMER (OF YOU AND ME) is a deeply felt celebration of summer and nostalgia for you Inga biblioteksbeskrivningar kunde hittas. |
