Revised: June 2017 +++++++++++++++ "We have it in our power to begin the world over again." - Common Sense, by Thomas Paine President Donald Trump! The people have spoken. Trump supporters have taught us all a lesson: pissed-off Americans show up on Election Day, pissed-off Americans are motivated, pissed-off Americans are ready for a revolution, and pissed-off Americans are To My Countrymen's intended readers. For a while, Trump supporters will bask in the sunshine of success; for a while, Bernie Sanders' supporters will be our angry Americans. Soon enough, Trump's supporters will learn the unhappiest lesson of American politics: President Donald Trump will not - can not - deliver what he promised, for a President is not a king and the system IS rigged! In the United States of America, the people (democracy) do not rule, Big Money (plutocracy) rules. But the Good News is "We have it in our power to begin the world over again." The Bad News is it will take an effort - your effort and the effort of a few million other Americans - and it will take time - maybe ten years, maybe more. So, let's begin now, we have no time to waste! To My Countrymen is a road-map to an American democracy, a real democracy where the people truly rule themselves. Equally importantly, it is a primer that will prepare us for that journey. What the hell is wrong? And what can WE do to fix it? To My Countrymen was written from page one with real Americans in mind; YOU, the regular American who loves his country, are this book's audience. The "solutions" it proposes are things that we must do because the President and Congress won't; they have their business, and it ain't We the People's business. We live in a democracy, right? We the People rule! We are in charge. So, what are YOU going to do to bring about a real democracy? "These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands it NOW, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph."
