We only get to meet Frieren’s party for a few pages, but each of their interactions hit me hard. ;__; This manga is emotional, heartwarming, and poignant. Also, little to no weird fanservice either. I don't often read manga - so I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. Frieren is about an elf (gifted with extremely long life) coming to terms with life AFTER the adventure is over and the war is won. Her human companions are aging and starting to die and she is starting to regret not getting to know them better. She decides to retrace the path she and her party had taken decades prior and visit the remaining humans before they die off. Fans of dungeons and dragons and other role playing games will likely love this manga - but it was jus ok for me. This is the first in a series and I'm not sure how many others there are. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension

The adventure is over but life goes on for an elf mage just beginning to learn what living is all about. Elf mage Frieren and her courageous fellow adventurers have defeated the Demon King and brought peace to the land. With the great struggle over, they all go their separate ways to live a quiet life. But as an elf, Frieren, nearly immortal, will long outlive the rest of her former party. How will she come to terms with the mortality of her friends? How can she find fulfillment in her own life, and can she learn to understand what life means to the humans around her? Frieren begins a new journey to find the answer. Frieren, Himmel, Heiter and Eisen celebrate their victory by watching the Era meteor shower, an event which occurs every 50 years. After casually promising to meet them when it happens again, Frieren leaves to study magic. The years go by and the day comes when Frieren must attend the funeral of one of her comrades, confronting her with her own near immortality. When she realizes she barely knew the man she fought beside for ten years, she sets out to learn more about people, and carry out the last wishes of her friend--to decipher the secret magic of immortality. January 2022- Probably the most quiet and contemplative fantasy manga I've ever read! It's a rare book that solely focuses on the "after" part of a big magical battle, and the way Yamada particularly narrows in on the aspect of carrying on your friends legacies and memories in this way is especially heartwarming. I also really enjoyed the fact that while Frieren is powerful and smart, she's by no means perfect and has a lot of flaws that are explored through her journey of reacquainting herself with her old friends. Very eager to keep reading this series and see how things develop! Tone-wise, it reminds me of "Delicious in Dungeon" by Ryōko Kui, just aboveground and more soft. (
