Coming Home to Mercy by Michelle De Bruin is an Inspirational Historical Romance. In this story, wealthy and sociable Margaret Millerson leaves Chicago to go out of state to help one of her two daughters, who gives birth to twins early.

Dr. Matthew Kaldenberg fills his time caring for the residents of his small town – including Margaret’s daughter and her newborn twins. When the two become more reacquainted, they discover they may have feelings for each other.

With a bi-plane, an unfortunate event, a flood, and more, this book kept me reading. I loved reading about Margaret and Matthew. I loved all of the interactions with her family and their friends. The author does an excellent job building a story I wanted to keep reading. She demonstrates how it is possible to overcome heartache from the past and find a second chance at love in the future.

So if you enjoy works of Inspirational Historical Romance, check out Coming Home to Mercy by Michelle De Bruin. I definitely recommend it.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own. ( )

I love this tine period and how the author gives us a wonderful story with details of an historical era. Who can forget the famous Wright Brothers? Their claim to fame made it possible to fly in the sky with ease. The author does a good job of incorporating this monumental mark of history with a character who I thought was the star of the book.

Matthew is the town’s doctor and many people adore him. His selfless time given to his patients makes him endearing. He has been without happiness it seems since he lost his family years ago. It is hard for him at times being alone but he has put his trust in God to heal his broken heart. His dream to own a bi-plane and is soon to be a reality when he decides to follow through and purchase one. Those moments he first gets in the air are what makes him happy. I can see him grinning and having the best time of his life.

Margaret has come to town to help her daughter with new born twins. She does hope to run into Matthew while she is there. They did have a moment a short time ago and their feelings for each never left them. I appreciate how Margaret was willing to drop everything to come help with her grandchildren and loved every moment she was with them. The story shows how she fights her feelings for Matthew but she can’t quite let go of what could be her future.

The books is a nice look at healthy marriages and how the couples stand together through difficult times. Matthew and Margaret struggle at times when they realize their deep feelings for each other. I think Margaret sees how happy her daughters are and wants the same for herself. The author examines how faith can heal relationships and shows how important it is to give mercy to others.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion. ( )

Coming Home to Mercy takes place during the birth of autos and airplanes, and focuses on a middle-aged widow, which makes this story more unique than my usual read. It’s rather refreshing to have characters that have progressed in life and experienced more than those reaching first love.

Margaret is trying to find her place in a new chapter of her life, and I rooted for her every step of the way. It was also fun experiencing Matthew’s fascination with flying. And his reasons for becoming a doctor are admirable and touching.

I love the small-town setting and became invested in Margaret and Matthew rather quickly. They are interesting characters, their stories are unique, and loved how the changes they experienced propelled them forward.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions are 100% mine. ( )

Coming Home to Mercy is the first book in the Coming Home series by Michelle De Bruin. This is a Christian historical fiction set in 1913. It is well written with good strong characters who care deeply for each other. Margaret is a person who has endured so much. I enjoyed the character of Margaret so much. She his so realistic and strong. After losing her husband, she moves into her wealthy brother’s home. When her daughter gives birth, she goes to help. Without domestic help, she is cooking, cleaning, doing laundry and planting gardens. She also struggles with deciding how long to help her daughter, when to go back to her brother’s and other daughter.

This is a fun story of second chances and taking chances. When Margaret arrives at her daughter’s home, the doctor, Matthew, is there for a visit. The two met at her daughter’s wedding and have thought of each other since. He seeks to fulfill his dream of owning a plane. This story gives a look into the changes in transportation, how people perceived the changes, and how the changes help in people’s lives.

I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book, this is my honest review. ( )

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Upon finding out her daughter and son in law just had twin boys, Margaret Millerson leaves the wealthy mansion of her brothers and goes to help take care of her grandsons. Surprisingly Margaret likes this small town, even thought there are no servants to do things for her. Instead, it is Margaret who gets up early to fix breakfast for everyone. She is also found cleaning house, doing laundry, taking care of two babies and she even helped Logan plant a garden. But when her time to go home rolls around, Margaret wants to stay and help. And even when another deadline to be there comes up, the good and handsome Dr. Matthew Kaldenberg finds put she’s leaving and instead, helps her find a place to stay. It seems this little quaint town of Oswell City is rubbing off on Margaret. Or could it be the handsome Dr and his love of flying planes?

Michelle De Bruin creates a wonderful cast of characters, both living at Margaret’s brothers mansion and in the little town of Oswell City. As a reader you will grow to love this family and these characters. It was fun having the set of twin baby boys in the story and the interaction with those sweet babies. Logan was a sweetheart and especially special to Margaret. I’m mean would she plant a garden in one of her gowns for anyone else?

And if you enjoy the early 1900’s era with the introduction to the automobile and the flying machines, you will especially be interested in this book. With the Shinny new Model T Ford and the Wright Biplane and, the good and handsome Dr Matthew Kaldenberg flying the Biplane. It’s all very interesting and a must read if you are a fan. And if you are not so much, you are sure to find enjoy to keep your mind occupied otherwise. I encourage you to try this one out. I give Coming Home to Mercy Four Stars. ( )
