Ruth Sova has created an aquatic program of body strengthening and relaxing exercises based on the work of Jun Konno that uses deep, diaphragmatic breathing and gently controlled movements in a progression of sixteen moves or postures to create flexibility and increased range of motion. Each posture has a name that describes physical action as well as mental association. With easy-to-follow diagrams and a detailed explanation of each posture, "Ai Chi - Balance, Harmony and Healing" walks the reader through each step so that a student can perform the moves without advanced instruction. Sova, however, includes an abundance of additional information such as the mind body connection, the relationship between breath and the autonomic nervous system, benefits for a diverse population and more, to move the student of ai chi on to an advanced level of participation.
