As Martin grew older he decided to follow his father's footsteps and became a pastor. Martin was a very kind man that believe people could solve their problems in a more peaceful way then just fighting. He had many followers and together they changed a lot of laws against black and white segregation. People loved to hear Martin speak. He once gave a speech in Washington DC and millions gathered to hear him. Some people didn't like change and Martin was shot and killed but his memory lives forever. This book could be used as a read-aloud for first graders. This book could be used to teach about Martin Luther King and the civil rights movement during black history month. It would be good for first graders because the sentence are shorter in length and not as much difficult vocabulary. As a child, I adored this book, and I believe I love it more now. Detailing the life of MLK it does so in a manner that 3rd -5th graders can gain a lot of information about Mr. King with out having to read a very long boring text. The simplification of complex ideas such as Jim Crow laws and Civil Rights are shown when the book writes, Once there wwere laws in some places that said that African Americans could only use certain resturaunt... MLK and many other people helped change these laws. Now all people can share the same things." I would certainly put this book in any library as it teache about MLK and the fairness, peace and other morals he fought for. This book is beautifully-rendered study of Martin Luther King Jr.'s life, told in simple, straightforward language for even the youngest of readers to understand. Pinkney's scratchboard and oil pastel illustrations convey both the strength and gentleness of King's character. Both text and art carry his central message of peace and brotherhood among all people. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
