This installment of the Independence Islands series of books features Alicia Roberts who comes to the islands to work as a veterinarian with Kendall Mulligan, and Jace Young, son of the owner of the apartments where Alicia finds a place to live. She carries scars from her past. Plus, she finally realizes she needs to stop running from God.

He deals with physical ailments and a desire to serve God in a meaningful way. I love how even though five different authors write these books, the characters and plot lines carry over from one story to another. So if you are looking for a fantastic book and more importantly a fantastic series, check out this book and the entire series for yourself.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own. ( )

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Hooper Safe Haven is another story in the The Independence Islands Series. I have so much enjoyed each book in this series. Alicia Roberts is on Hooper Island to work with Kendall Mulligan in her mobile veterinarian clinic. Jace Young is back on the island, not really having a choice, and is working for his dad at the apartments he owns. Where Alicia finds an apartment for rent.

I love this story. I love following Jace and Alicia and enjoyed them being together, but they wasn’t exactly sure about a relationship. The characters in this story are all so well created and following each of them to the end of the story is a lot if fun. There are a few twists that kept me reading. I enjoyed the trip back to the mobile animal clinic as well. Being on the island near the beach all of the time, What’s not to like about this story. I encourage you to check this one out, as well as the other books in this series, I’m sure you will fall in love with them all, just as I did. I’m giving this one Five Stars.

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255. ( )

Hooper Safe Haven is the fourth novel in Rachel Skatvold's Hooper Island series. It may be read on its own, but it is more enjoyable if you read the other books in the series first.

Alicia Roberts arrives on Hooper (Hopper to the locals) Island in search of a safe haven. She conceals a lot of things, including herself.

Jace Young lives and works on Hopper Island. Due to an injury that causes him to have seizures, he has numerous problems and obstacles to overcome. Cooper, his dog, assists him in identifying the onset of a seizure.

Cooper was a fascinating character to read about. One of my daughters works as an animal behaviorist who specializes in dogs. She's trained a variety of canines for service, search and rescue, narcotics detection, behavioral difficulties and a variety of other purposes. It was fascinating to read about a dog who was trained to detect seizures.

I enjoyed reading Hooper Safe Haven. The author deftly incorporates teachings on faith and trusting in God no matter what your circumstances are.

I also appreciated how seamlessly the tale flows with the rest of the series.

I received this book from Celebrate Lit. However, my review is voluntary, and all opinions are my own. ( )

Hooper Safe Haven by Rachel Skatvold is book 16 in the Independence Island series. This one is part of the Hooper Island set. While these are great stand alone stories, they do reference people, places and events of previous books, so it is best to read them in order.
I really enjoyed this story, Alicia and Jace are such good characters. I enjoyed how they did not burden others with their issues and were there to help anyone in their time of need. I especially enjoyed the character of Jace's father. He devoted his time to being there for Jace in his time of need and has put off moving on with his life.
This story shows that God will direct our paths in the time frame he feels is best, and he will bring people together at just the right time in their lives. This is a nice island story to just get lost in.
I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book, this is my honest review. ( )

The series is so well written I am in awe of how each author incorporates characters from the other books into their individual stories. Of course I think you should read every book in the series so you get to know the community and people who live on the islands. Now let’s examine the latest book that has kept me emotionally involved to the point that I feel like we are family.

This story has a feel of depth and emotional struggles that showcases the author’s ability to make her characters seem real. Instead of reading the book, I felt like I was part of everything going on. I love how these characters have flaws that are not always visible. It is hard to see the emotional struggle when you are good at hiding your feelings.

Alicia grabbed my attention right away. She seemed like such a lost person with nowhere to go. It is easy to tell she is hiding something but she does a good job of deflecting curious questions from the people she has gotten to know. She doesn’t want to get too close to anyone and is determined to find her own place to live. Working with the veterinarian keeps her busy and she is settling down a little but she always has her guard up. I couldn’t wait to find out what her secret was.

Jace is my favorite character because he is a testimony to how God is always there even in the midst of illness. I was upset when I read what happened to him and the physical limitations he deals with. What I really liked about him was how he never felt sorry for himself and was always there to help others. I like how the relationship between Alicia and Jace slowly grew over time . The author does a good job of having Jace reach out to Alicia in a way that let her feel that she could share her past and not be afraid of what he would think of her.

I was shocked at what Alicia had gone through and how deeply she has been hurt and feeling abandoned. With a big event coming up for Jace, he tells Alicia that he is not afraid. “God has given me peace about it.” Right there at that moment you can feel his words helping Alicia to trust God with her problems. If I was facing what Jace is about to go through, I don’t know if I would be as calm as he is.

The story has a few surprises that made me love the characters more. With tears streaming down my face, I saw Alicia finally find her safe haven which was peace in her heart. I loved the ending and especially how one person whose name I won’t divulge, finally let their past and find a new relationship with God. This has been an especially good story where the author writes with such grace that each character became important to me. I didn’t want the story to end but am so happy for how the author left us with hope , peace and new beginnings.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion. ( )
