Aimed at school children, this is an informative book about coral reefs, how they grow, the life to be found in them, and the current threats to their survival.

The information given is accurate and informative, the illustrations are good and, as a reefer myself, I appreciated that the author resisted dumbing down the subject, as so many do these days. (it is indeed a "clownfish" not a "Nemo"). The book ends with advice on what school children can do to help safeguard the future of coral reefs. I think that this book is likely to get some kids interested enough in the subject to follow-up some of the many further reading references given at the end. ( )

This book's strengths lie in its lovely color illustrations. It is an informative book about coral reefs, which will probably appeal to those interested in science and sea life. This book is no doubt intended for kids, but the advanced vocabulary seems more suited to adult readers. The information would be communicated quite well without the scientific vocabulary words inserted in the text.

I received this book from the publisher and from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The opinions expressed here are entirely my own. ( )

Who knew that there were cold water coral reefs?! Do Northern Hemisphere folks have any idea just how big the Great Barrier Reef is? Here I learned about the formation and close appearance of the individual tiny polyps of coral as well as the many animals, fishes, and minute food particles like plankton who live/hide inside the coral reefs. Then there are the fine illustrations of the different types of coral, and lots more! Then come the need for coral in the ecosytem and how humans are responsible for their deterioration as well as what we as individuals can do to stop and rewind to a better state of coral (and oceanic) health. Get one for gifting and one for local library!
I requested and received a free temporary ebook from Storey Publishing via NetGalley. Thank you! ( )
