Lemonade War (utgåvan 2009)

This book describes the complex relationship between brothers and sisters. It also addresses how one miscommunication can lead to an all out sibling rivalry. One sibling is planning on moving up a grade which will place them in the same grade as the other sibling and this upsets them. The conversation that follows puts the rest of the plot into motion. This would be a great book to include in the classroom, considering most students usually have siblings or a close friend that they consider as a sibling. ( )

In this contemporary realistic fiction book, Jesse and Evan (sister and brother) are the children of divorced parents. They end up in a summer competition, competing lemonade stands. One struggles with math and the other struggles with socialization. Can they be successful without the help of the other? Who will make the most money over the summer?

This book tells the story of a summer competition between siblings, Evan and Jesse. The author does a great job of making the story exciting, as it follows the ups and downs of the lemonade business between the two main characters. These ups and downs also mirror the relationship between the siblings. The author is able to make the characters well defined and by the end of the story, the reader has a very clear picture of what makes them tick. The author is also able to keep the reader from taking sides in the competition, as each is likable in spite of their differences.
