I loved the insights into Draco's character. Very easy and enjoyable to read. The last 4 chapters are about a different time in Tom's life and they changed my mind about Emma Watson's Foreword, which at first I thought was a bit exaggerated. Thank you @Christina for the gift. Road trippin' with celebrity memoir audiobooks! (2 of 3) I'm not a big fan of the Harry Potter movies, but my daughter liked this book, and I'm always up for some behind-the-scenes anecdotes, so why not? The behind-the-scenes was the best part and takes up most of the book. The family bits were okay, but the stint in rehab comes off as way too pretentious and really cements Felton as a Slytherin. Still, he has my best wishes for his recovery and my gratitude for being an otherwise amiable companion on a long drive. Tom Felton, AKA Drayco Malfoy in the Harry Potter stories tells interesting behind the scenes stories about the making of the movies. The book is interesting, and Felton’s narration is really good. Unlike some tell all books, Tom Felton is fair and friendly to all of his colleagues. The only disparagement Felton delivers is of himself in a humorous self deprecating way. The last part of the book is a departure from the rest of it. In the last part Felton talks about his substance abuse problems and the time he spend in rehab. Rather than being Hollywood-dramaish, it’s really informative. After all of that, Felton offers his own advice to readers (and, in my case listeners) about the value of recognizing weaknesses in ourselves and not feeling ashamed to seek help. I found this very helpful, and I imagine more readers than he could realize have been inspired and helped by this part of “Beyond the Wand.” This book was thoroughly enjoyable to listen to, a book any Harry Potter book fan would enjoy. Reading this feels like Tom is talking directly to you. You go from feeling nostalgic to cracking up laughing every five minutes, and yet he is so utterly honest about his life and himself that I finished the book with tears still flowing down my face. Tom Felton is a rarity. He's good, honest, funny, and inspiring. Having read this, I feel an entirely new level of respect for him, and my love for him has multiplied so much, I think my heart might burst. He's a true gem, and this book is one million percent worth the read. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
Tom Felton's adolescence was anything but ordinary. His early rise to fame in beloved films like The Borrowers catapulted him into the limelight, but nothing could prepare him for what was to come after he landed the iconic role of the Draco Malfoy, the bleached blonde villain of the Harry Potter movies. For the next ten years, he was at the center of a huge pop culture phenomenon and yet, in between filming, he would go back to being a normal teenager trying to fit into a normal school. Speaking with great candor and his signature humor, Tom shares his experience growing up as part of the wizarding world while also trying to navigate the muggle world. He tells stories from his early days in the business like his first acting gig where he was mistaken for fellow blonde child actor Macaulay Culkin and his Harry Potter audition where, in a very Draco-like move, he fudged how well he knew the books the series was based on (not at all). He reflects on his experiences working with cinematic greats such as Alan Rickman, Sir Michael Gambon, Dame Maggie Smith, and Ralph Fiennes (including that awkward Voldemort hug). And, perhaps most poignantly, he discusses the lasting relationships he made over that decade of filming, including with Emma Watson, who started out as a pesky nine-year-old whom he mocked for not knowing what a boom mic was but who soon grew into one of his dearest friends. Then, of course, there are the highs and lows of fame and navigating life after such a momentous and life-changing experience. Inga biblioteksbeskrivningar kunde hittas. |
