I had read a review of this book to say that there was no titilation in it at all - wrong. This book is just full of sexual detail and titilation. I came away from reading this book thinking what a daft woman this author was. Just how this woman thought that prostitution was preferable to downsizing her world and spending is a mystery to me. However it was a compelling read. Not particularly well written, but interesting all the same. If you fancy a very light, quick read with lots of sex in it - punctuated with little stories of home life and pity party paragrahps - go for it. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
Dawn Annandale is bright, witty and well educated. But when her marriage began to fall apart, she had to face a seemingly insurmountable pile of debts on her own. Determined that her children would not suffer because of their parents' mistakes, and with no family to turn to for help, she searched desperately for a way to make some money, and fast. And made the decision to become an escort. CALL ME ELIZABETH offers an insight into the sex industry in the UK today, as well as the shocking truth that increasing numbers of women in a similar situation to Dawn are turning to prostitution to make ends meet. It is by turns sad, funny, frightening and empowering, but it is above all honest and compelling. From Emanuelle to Pretty Woman, the life of an escort remains deeply fascinating. There will be those who will judge the author, but there will be many more who will recognise her dilemma and understand how she reached her decision. This is her story - decide for yourself. This is the true story of a mother that is 'driven' to prostitution by overwhelming debts and no viable alternative to save her family home and lifestyle. In that respect it should be sympathetic, but.... the family lifestyle wasn't exactly the breadline. A large family, 6 kids, but they're at private school with all the extra-curicula activities that go with it. Surely you'd put your kids into state school before deciding to go on the game. Maybe that's just the way I think, certainly 'Elizabeth' chooses self sacrifice rather than jeopardise her family's prospects and happiness. Admitedly, this is all wrapped up in her early years, a mother that didn't show affection and insisted on her children being quiet, tidy and generally not behaving like 'children'; a father that abused her. No wonder she wanted the best for her own children.
There's not that much more to say about it. It's a catalogue of her life as an escort, a little detail of some of her clients, but more a continuous.... 'look at what I did for my kids & see how happy & well adjusted they are'. Still, a quick and interesting read even if it did have a trite ending. One question lingers... now that their mother has gone into print about how she raised them, are the kids still 'happy & well asjusted'? ( )
