In This Moment was a great read, keeping me engaged the whole time. It was difficult to put down due to the "what is going to happen in life #". Even with the chapter changes, I never forgot or felt like I was hanging on to the previous chapter.
The MC had a lot of hard choices throughout the book and I think that the author handled addressing them perfectly.
I hope that ending means that there is going to be a third book.

Maggie, Libby and Henry's daughter who was born with both her parents' birthmarks, lives in three different timelines: 1861, 1941, and 2001. Having lived as far into the "future" as 2001, she knows what will happen in her other two timelines: the American Civil War and the US entering World War Two. However, she is unaware of the events of September 11, 2001. She has no idea that she is facing war and many deaths in all three of her timelines. This novel could be read without having read the first in the series, but I suggest reading When the Day Comes first so the time-crossing aspect is especially clear. Maggie has a tough choice ahead of her, knowing that by her 21st birthday she must choose which timeline she will live the rest of her life in, giving up the other two. She works in a medical capacity in all three timelines and her training in medical school in 2001 is quite advanced for 1861 - and even for 1941 - so she has to be very careful in the earlier time periods about what knowledge and techniques she can and cannot reveal. She also cannot reveal any information she has about the impending Civil War and what will happen December 7, 1941. Changing history could be disastrous and would cause her to forfeit the timeline she has affected. She has her work and her families in each timeline, as well as a best friend in 2001, her new friend, Clara Barton, in 1861, and her sister (who does not cross time) in 1941. However, while those relationships and her work helping to heal people are considerations, her choice seems to be mainly focused on her romantic love interests, rather than being balanced between all her considerations (some of which are conveniently resolved once she has made her romantic choice). I would have also liked to have seen more of Libby and Henry in this novel, but the parent we see the most of is Maggie's 1861 father (he's a great character, but I would have liked to have seen more of the 1941 time-crossing parents). In all, though, it is a fantastic, clean read that also shows the importance of faith in the characters' lives, and I definitely plan to read the third novel - especially after reading the epilogue of this one! ( )

First sentence: Most days, I could pretend that my life was normal. I was a twenty-year old woman searching for my place in the world, trying to decide my future. The only difference was that I had three normal lives, and on my twenty-first birthday, just eight and a half months from now, I would have to choose which one to keep and which to forfeit. Forever.

Our heroine is "Margaret Wakefield," "Maggie Hollingsworth," and "Meg Clarke." Her timelines are respectively 1861, 1941, and 2001. In each timeline she has an interest in medicine be it as a nurse or doctor/surgeon. A little bit of backstory, she is the daughter of TWO time slippers or two time travelers. She bears two birthmarks which signify that she has this special ability; one is inherited from her father and the other is inherited from her mother.

This is the second novel in the series. Unlike the first book, I really LOVED this one. Mainly because it was so much improved from the first novel. What I appreciated about his novel is the characterization and storytelling. Characters are fully fleshed out in all three timelines. Well, mostly. Two of the timelines definitely get more attention to detail. However, I felt that the stories in all three were actually engaging and well-balanced. I did not feel that there was a super incredible obvious choice within the first three or four pages. I did not feel that there was one obvious HERO that would be THE ONE within the first three chapters. I think the balance between the three storylines, the cast of characters in each timeline, were well done. Most importantly, I think the heroine was actually likable. And that makes all the difference in the world. If you can't stand to be anywhere near the main character and you think she is off-putting, it's hard to like a book well enough to finish it.

Loose lips apparently don't sink ships in the world Meyer has created. Our main character can't really keep her abilities to herself. She confides in friends, family, and love interests. In every timeline she has a support system in place which allows her to talk relatively freely about her other lives, other families, other love interests. I don't know how I feel about this to be honest.

There was one scene that I thought was theologically iffy. But I think the theology of this speculative fiction is just necessarily iffy. Because it is all make believe and has a different set of rules. God somehow seems less sovereign and less in charge of his universe. Like he's waiting on his special time-travelers to figure out how the story is going to play out.

Time travel at its finest! The stories are seamless and the characters are fantastic! The love story is sweet and romantic! The attention to detail is astounding! A definite must read!

This is such a unique book and I really enjoyed it. I liked it even more than the first one in the series.
This could easily be read as a stand-alone.
Maggie lives three separate lives in 1861, 1941 and 2001. Each night she goes to sleep and wakes up in the next time period and cycles through each time period every three days. When she turns 21 she will need to decide which time period to stay in. She really likes medicine in all three periods which also interests me so I really liked that. I really liked each of the time periods and there were threats of war in each period which tied it all together. Of course there is romance in each of her timelines as well.
My only complaint is that I feel like a lot of the characters could have been more developed, especially her sister in 1941. Some of the characters just felt flat to me which was disappointing.
This was very clean and didn't have the issue that the first book had. There are some war injuries but they weren't graphic and I don't think anyone but the most sensitive reader would be bothered by it.
Would highly recommend for a really interesting and unique read.
