Give the book about 5 or 6 chapters to really get started. It will hold you a willing captive from then on. The story is told from several points of view and I don’t believe it will take you long to figure out exactly what the evil is that is encasing this delta town…but it will take you and the towns people longer to figure out how to get rid of it…if that is even possible. All of the Brandon Massey books that I've read so far are filled with suspense and generous doses of horror. I will admit this particular horror wasn’t my favorite type but it was well done with a good plotline that Mr. Massey carried out beautifully. ( )

Wow! A vampire story with a LOT of BITE!!! I loved this book but must admit to at times being afraid to turn the pages and tempted to check out the ending to make sure the main character in the story was going to be okay after all.

David Hunter's father dies in a boating accident, and David, who really never knew him, decides that now it is time to go looking for answers about his dad. His search takes him to a small town called Dark Corner, where his dad, a pulitzer-prize winning novelist, used to live and write. He decides he's only going to stay long enough to get the answers he seeks and then move back to Atlanta. Subplot #1

A group of men who need work are summoned by a mysterious stranger who has taken residence in an old, haunted-looking mansion at the top of the hill. They are paid $250 to dig out some old cave and are not told why, exactly, but their work leaves them with a bad taste in their mouth and really frightened. They are warned never to speak of their work. Their employer is a modern-day vampire who is also looking for answers to what happened to his father. His father, it seems, was an African prince who was made into a vampire eons ago; he had been sold into slavery & came to America before the Civil War. This vampire, Diallo, was taken care of and buried in the cave by the plantation owner's son & some slaves at the place, and had remained in stasis all of these years until his son came to find him. subplot #2

Well, it seems that Diallo's son (Kyle) can't wait to meet his dad; the problem is that he's not quite ready for what happens when Diallo is unearthed. Vampires in the 21st century are civilized....don't hunt humans, etc; but no one told Diallo the new system. So when Diallo wakes up, he is thirsty and bent on revenge for those who imprisoned him. This include's David Hunter's ancestor, who was one of the those who had put Diallo under ground. Vampirism soon spreads in the little town.

Very exciting book & one I just couldn't stop until I'd finished. This is a very good vampire novel, full of tension, suspense and good enough to raise the hackles on the back of my neck. I highly recommend it to those readers who enjoy a fun reading experience. ( )
