The Book Bandit (A Phoebe Chen Mystery) is such a fun chapter book for young readers. It offers a great sense of adventure and suspense and promotes investigating signs and various sides to a situation rather than initial assumptions.

Phoebe is easy to connect to, especially if the reader enjoys puzzles, riddles, word games, and mysteries like she does. I loved reading Trixie Belden books and Nancy Drew mysteries when I was young, and this gives off a similar, though younger, atmosphere.

I love how Phoebe enlists help from others as she brainstorms the missing book who-dun-it. Wisely, she doesn’t jump to conclusions, searching instead for solid signs.

This is a fun and rewarding mystery surrounded by family, friendship, diversity, and critical thinking.
