Summary:
This book is about a brother and sister named Carlo and Terry. Terry is Carlo's older sister but she acts different than he does. She is mentally challenged. Carlo gets frustrated with his sister because she can't always do things right and the other kids make fun of her. One day Carlo and Terry decide to go to the mall to find their Grandmother a present. Terry found a powder puff doll that she really really liked. Carlo wasn't sure that his Grandmother would like it but he got it anyway so they could leave because everyone was staring. When Terry had to go to the bathroom Carlo let her go by herself and told her where to go. Time went by and it had been a while since she had been gone. He went to look for her but couldn't find her. He started thinking about how mad his parents would be and how upset his Grandmother would be if he had lost her. Then he began to think of some of the nice things she had done for him before and he began to get worried that she was alone and scared. When he finally found his sister he had mixed emotions and wanted to be mad at her but couldn't because she was safe and with him again. After that day Carlo appreciated his sister more and even played outside with her more.

Personal Reaction:
This is a very great book to read to younger children to introduce them to children they may meet that are mentally challenged. It is a great way to teach them to be nice and know the struggles they go through on a day to day basis.

Classroom Extension Ideas:
1. This is a great book to introduce children to knowing the struggles mentally challenged children and adults go through and that they should accept them for who they are.
2. This is a great book to introduce children with a lesson on diversity. ( )

This book is great for kids Kindergarten to third grade. It shows the children the good qualities in children with special needs and teaches them not to be mean. This book should be read to every younger classroom, because it allows children to be introduced to children with special needs without judging them.
