"Summer won't last forever. Sage Byrd has lived in the coastal town of Spunes, Oregon (not to be confused with Forks, Washington) her entire life. She's learned to love her small world, with the misfit animals on her hobby farm, and her friendships with the town's inhabitants. But when her 5-year relationship ends and her ex, town-golden-boy Ian, suddenly gets engaged, Sage needs a win - something that will convince everyone to stop pitying her all the time, and to put Ian in his place. The Festival of Spunes, the town's annual summer competition, would be the perfect opportunity. She just needs a partner. Fisher Lange was a hotshot chef in New York City until the loss of his sister left him numb, grieving, and responsible for his teenage niece Indy. When Fisher loses his Michelin star along with his love of cooking, his boss sends him and Indy to Spunes on a much-needed summer sabbatical to consult on a restaurant opening. But when clashes with the townspeople threaten his last chance to redeem himself and a kiss with his new neighbor Sage leads to dating rumors, a strategic alliance might just be the best way to turn things around. A deal is struck. Sage will improve Fisher's image in the eyes of the town and remove the roadblocks he is facing with the restaurant, and Fisher will be Sage's partner for the competition. But as their pact quickly turns into steamy rendezvous, emotional wounds begin to heal, and the pair tries to savor every moment, they start to realize that summer is racing by much faster than they would like... Filled with spicy summer fun, small-town charm, and Big Feelings, this highly anticipated romcom is Tarah DeWitt's best yet"--… (mer)

In an Oregon small town, the hero and his teenager niece are staying over the summer to deal with the new restaurant that his boss is hoping to provide the town with new business. The heroine is living in her childhood home with the rescue animals she had adopted, looking forward to the annual town festival that brings tourism to her hometown. The heroine must also contend with having an ex-boyfriend and his new fiancée living in the same town, with certain townspeople taking sides to support her. The hero and the heroine have a connection that brings them together, and a romantic relationship starts between them. As time passed by, the hero and the heroine must make a decision that will either bring them a happy ending with each other or tear them apart.

This is my first Tarah DeWitt book, and I enjoyed reading it. I found the main characters to be relatable, and the animals that the heroine surrounded herself to be adorable. I liked the author's writing style, but I also did feel a disassociation between myself and the novel. Though the story was enjoyable, I would have liked some more details in it for better transitions and enrichment of certain situations. I did like the focus of small-town living, with its good and bad points. I also liked the book cover, which has such nice colors in it. Overall, an enjoyable novel from a new author that I hope to read more of in the future. ( )

What can I say, I really loved this book. Although it started out a little slow for me, I became completely hooked on these characters. Fisher is in Spunes Oregon to help a restaurant get started as a way to make up for losing a Michelin Star for his employer. Besides the star, Fisher has also lost a sister not long ago and he is taking over raising his teenage niece who is also in Oregon with him for the summer. Fisher and Indy are introduced to their loving and quirky neighbor Sage on their very first night, along with the Spunes area fire and rescue teams. There are some truly funny moments, and the banter and chemistry between Fisher and Sage is extremely well written. That being said, there are also serious moments as well. Sage has also lost loved ones and doesn't always feel confident in relationships. She wants to help everyone, and her menagerie of rescue animals is a testament to that. Watching her break down some of Fisher's walls as well as him give her his admiration just as she was, was the best. There are intimate scenes. While they are open door, they are written in such a beautiful and mature way that I didn't skim over them like I often do. By the end of the book, I was in love with not only the main characters, but the community and its residents as well. I look forward to what Tarah DeWitt has coming up next.

My sincere thanks to St. Martin's Griffin and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read Savor It and have given my unbiased opinion of it in this short review. ( )

"Savor It" by Tarah DeWitt

My Perception:

'Savor It' is a sweet small town of Spunes that gave us romance featuring Sage and Fisher. The story has lots of banter with some tears with loveable characters who work through many of their struggles as they grow together and, most importantly, learn how to talk to each other in such a positive way. It was fun as Sage and Fisher fell in love as they came out of their shell and finally solved their problems. Will they become that perfect pair? This town of Spunes had some charming people who offered depth and joy in the loveable romance story. To see how it all comes together, you must pick up this good read and see if it will all come together for these two.

Thank you to St. Martin's Press, NetGalley, and the author for an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. ( )

Savor It by Tarah DeWitt
Contemporary romance, romantic comedy. Fake relationship.
Sage Byrd has lived in Spunes, Oregon her entire life. She knows everyone and loves that, but it also means that everyone knows about her breakup with a long time boyfriend and the fact that he’s already engaged to someone else. Sage needs a way to distract everyone from feeling sorry for her.
Fisher Lange is burned out after the emotional toll of losing his sister. He’s lost his enthusiasm for cooking with results in the loss of a Michelin Star. His friend and boss sends Fisher to Spunes to consult on a new restaurant. But small town is not necessarily ready for New York dining experiences and Fisher finds himself turning to Sage for help. Together, they will face the annual summer competition, pretending to be dating, while Sage teaches him about small town preferences. That their relationship becomes steamy is fine with both of them. It’s temporary and they went into it with eyes wide open.

🎧 I alternated between an ebook and audiobook. The narration is done by Karissa Vacker and Zachary Webber in alternating chapters based on POV by either Sage or Fisher. They both have distinct voices for Sage and Fisher and the performances are delightful and occasionally steamy. I love dual narration. It absolutely helps with alternating POV but more, it adds to the romance and knowing how each of the main characters feel. Yes, the ebook has chapter titles so you know whose POV it is, but since both are in first person, it can be easy to forget until content places you back in the right person’s head. Plus, these two do such a great job on the opposite sex that it almost feels like both of them in many of the conversations.

Fake relationships that turn to mutual attraction that can’t be ignored is such a fun troupe. Surprise passion is hot! Their missteps aren’t surprising, but we get a bit of humor from the small town inhabitants and Sage’s menagerie of animals. And of course, an hea that will make you sigh in contentment.
Endearing and charming.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley and publisher Macmillan Audio. ( )

Beautiful, hilarious, quirky, slightly spicy yet balanced with very moving moments, Savor It is a story of love and loss, burnouts and the journey to self-discovery and recovery. And oh my, what a treat this was! A feast for the eyes and food for the soul. I will be savor-ing this book for a long time to come. Of course, you can see what I did there – and if you are a lover of puns both silly and witty, you will love this book as much as I have because this is full of them!

“I want you to know that to me, you're everything. I love that you’re full of terrible puns that you’re not afraid to follow with profound wisdom...You’re all the shapes made perfectly to hold me, and you’re all my favorite colors.”

This is the first book I’ve read by Tarah DeWitt and it has to be the best contemporary romance I’ve read in a while. DeWitt’s writing is so charming, and much like the way she describes hugs “It’s agony. It’s bliss” – the book’s warmth radiated and its pages enfolded me through the delightful and heartfelt moments. It kept me thoroughly engaged, so much so that by the end of this book even I fell in love with the town!

The amount of humour got me grinning ear-to-ear, particularly the circumstances in which Sage and Fisher meet. Some really serious moments are handled realistically and exceptionally well. I also love the mature approach that DeWitt has to writing 30-something-year-olds: their communication is perfect! The way they take accountability if they are ever being distant or offhand towards the other is admirable. Communication is key in any relationship and they are always trying to communicate their feelings despite how awkward it may sound or how rejected it may be.

The only negatives were:
I was hoping to see more of Fisher cooking in his actual working environment, seeing him properly find his passion again.
Also, the cover of this book is absolutely gorgeous but – where was her pink dress in the story? I was living for the pinky-purple colour scheme on the front haha! ( )
