Gemma has just broken up with her boyfriend, the undercover cop, Steve. However, she has more than enough work to keep her busy. There is the woman who is being harassed by her estranged husband and the grieving widower who thinks the company to whom he gave his wife's ashes to make a diamond has given him the wrong item. Her piano teacher's elderly mother is convinced that some animal is in her flat. The tony girls school, Netherleigh Park Ladies' College, has just hired her to investigate the disappearance of one of the students from a year ago. Then another girl goes missing and since both girls were friends there seems to be a connection. Gemma is conducting her investigation and her friend Angie is working on it from the police end. This gives Gemma some resources that she might not have access to otherwise. But even with that and the able assistance of her two operatives, Mike and Spinner, Gemma is going flat out. Mix into this the sudden appearance of Hugo/Ratbag, the boy who used to live next door, and a note telling her there is a contract out on her life and it is easy to understand why Gemma isn't feeling well.

All the cases get concluded satisfactorily but there is one more surprise awaiting Gemma. There must a sequel in the offing. ( )

Almost a four star whodunit but just lacked a little something. Definitely worth a read, or listening to the Bolinda audio version. I will be looking for another of G. Lord's books to listen to or read. Spiking the Girl ticked boxes for good story and good narrator. ( )
