For the reader, Jew or Gentile, who may be curious as to why it is that the Jewish people, after nearly 4,000 years, despite centuries of persecution and massacre, is still here and still teaching the ethical precepts first promulgated in the Bible and is still, by and large, confident that people are and can be--in the worlds of Anne Frank--basically good.
