The boy detective is back at it again in the second Encyclopedia Brown book, The Case of the Secret Pitch. Filled with another ten exciting mysteries, this volume allows readers to solve another set of cases Encyclopedia has stumbled upon in his day-to-day life in Idaville. From solving a kidnapping to taking a trip out West, Encyclopedia is able to show his skills once more. The set of stories is about as good as the first, and the solutions come fairly easy as well. Younger readers will definitely enjoy this collection of short cases, and it is short enough to be read in one sitting. ***Reviewed January 17, 2019*** ( )

What a perfect set for grades 2-4; short mysteries (2-5 pages each) solved by a 10-year-old boy. The format lends itself to a perfectly short read in the car, in a waiting room, or right before bed (after the big bed-time read-aloud). I wish I had discovered these sooner. ( )

After reading the first one, it was difficult for me to really get into the second one. I think that the repetition of mystery after mystery gets pretty boring but I can see why a lot of boys would find this book very fun to read.
