Variable short stories based in a pub, where an old fellow tells tales about various relatives of his who get into messes, usually because they are totally gormless and put-upon. Some of the stories are very good indeed and others merely average. This was a reread from many years ago. Not as good as the Blandings or the Bertie and Jeeves stories, but amusing on the whole. Return once more to the Angler's Rest and listen to Mr. Mulliner spin tales of his nearest and dearest. My favorite is probably Those in Peril on the Tee, in which two young men play one of the worst golf games ever played for the love of an overpowering young woman. Also memorable are the three Bobbie Wickham stories, in which she makes three young men very miserable for the love of her. Always a pleasure. Mr Mulliner Speaking has quite a few interesting and and entertaining stories including a golf story (some of Wodehouse's best stories are his golf stories), several featuring Bobbie Wickham (who also appears in the Jeeves and Wooster tales leaving chaos in her wake), and a particular favourite of mine about the man who tried to give up smoking. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
A Mulliner collection In the bar-parlour of the Angler's Rest, Mr Mulliner tells his amazing tales, which hold his audience of drinkers (referred to only as Pints of Stout and Whiskies-and-Splash) in the palm of his expressive hand. Here you can discover what happened to The Man Who Gave Up Smoking, share a frisson when the butler delivers Something Squishy on a silver salver ('Your serpent, Sir,' said the voice of Simmons) - and experience the dreadful Unpleasantness at Bludleigh Court. Throughout the Mulliner clan remains resourcefully in command in the most outlandish situations, making for a vintage collection of hilarious Wodehouse. Inga biblioteksbeskrivningar kunde hittas. |

The humour that P. G. Wodehouse was so good at crops up in many different guises.
"The Story of Cedric" is my favourite tale in this collection. ( )
