Very educational and inspiring. This books helps you along the way in your writing style and guides you along. Wonderful ready. ( ![]() I very much liked this book, even if certain parts are maybe not applicable to writing in Swedish. Most of the book can be applied to writing in most languages though, and considering how much social media I deal with in English it doesn't hurt to know the proper grammar rules (or, you know, go over them again... I did learn some in school, after all). The only thing I really disagreed with was the idea that "he" works well as a gender-neutral pronoun in English, better than singular "they". I'd prefer "they" any day, and the book totally allows one to choose freely in this matter, which I liked. This book is probably responsible for a lot of the silliness around the passive voice in modern school systems today. In fact, many of the examples of the passive voice are not passive at all. These and other issues are offset by White's essay towards the back, and the sensible rules regarding possessive nouns. Is there any other guide? Not in my opinion.
Buy it, study it, enjoy it. It's as timeless as a book can be in our age of volubility. (previous edition) ...still a little book, small enough and important enough to carry in your pocket, as I carry mine. The Elements of Style does not deserve the enormous esteem in which it is held by American college graduates. Its advice ranges from limp platitudes to inconsistent nonsense. Its enormous influence has not improved American students' grasp of English grammar; it has significantly degraded it. Har som instuderingsbok
