Sir Cumference and his son Radius were sitting down, suddenly Sir Cumference's stomach started hurting. Radius went to the potions room, and gave his dad a potion. The potion made his dad turn into a dragon, and in order to turn his dad back Radius must solve a math riddle. A math teacher could read this book to students when learning about circumference, pi, and radius. ( )

When Sir Cumference is turned into a dragon, Radius (his son) must work hard to solve a riddle and find the correct dose of medicine that will turn his father back into a human before sunrise the next day! It is through this he discovers the concept of pi. This book has does a wonderful job of using math vocabulary and explains the concept of pi and diameter while still keeping an interesting storyline. ( )

Sir Cumference and his son, Radius are eating lunch together one day when Sir Cumference suddenly has pains in his stomach. Radius wants to help his father, but he accidentally gives his father a potion that turns him into a dragon because he thinks it's a cure for an aching stomach. While trying to find an antidote so that Radius can turn his father back into a human, he sees a container that has the formula for the circle's measure that seems like it might be the cure. Radius follows the prompts, using a pie and several measurements to assist him in solving the problem, and he is successful. The book talks about pi at the end, and the characters discuss how they will differentiate between "pie" and "pi."

I loved this book in the Sir Cumference series as well. The artwork is so true to the time period, and the language is so witty. Characters include Geo of Metry and his brother, Sym. I liked how physical diagrams and measurements were shown describing real items like pie. Every element in this story comes together so effectively. I think kids will like this book because it helps them take a step back in time and to learn Geometry in such a low-key, relaxing, fun manner. ( )

This was a fun book to teach kids about math. I think it is fun for any age that this has to be taught at. Even in the middle school. It can be interactive where you stop and try to have the kids figure out answers during the book.

This a story about how the number pi is derived. Radius is a young boy who accidentally turns his father into a dragon. He then must find the exact dosage of a potion that will turn his father back into a man. He goes through various measurements to figure this out.
This book is an excellent addition to a mathematics classroom library. The use of mathematics terms is humorous and it explains well how diameter and circumference play into the number pi. ( )
