Emma’s turtle escapes its pen and he imagines he is exploring all the places Emma has read to him about. Emma’s turtle explores various locations like the sandbox and the park. The illustrations are very colorful and help the reader comprehend the story being told.
This was an easy book to read that would be a good book to read to students who like adventure and sparking imagination and creation. Good read aloud for students to teach them about hard work.

16 months - This is a creative story. The turtle takes a journey across the world... or is it just his backyard. What a great story idea. ( )

I enjoyed reading this children's fictional text. I liked how the story was told from the turtle's perspective and how the turtle took on humanistic traits such as, talking and having its own thoughts. I felt the author said a lot with few words and that the dialogue spoken between the characters was purposeful and added meaning to the story. My only dislike was I wish the turtle had a name. I felt the author's decision to not give the turtle (the main character) a name made the character seem impersonal.

I liked this book and it pushed me to be more curious about life. The big idea of this story is to stay curious and adventurous. The main character, a turtle who escapes out of his cage and travels to "Africa", "Australia", and other places. The plot is very enjoyable. When the turtle travels to "Australia" he seems a grasshopper and believes it is a cricket! The plot continues as the turtle travels deeper and the reader wonders if he will ever return to his cage! The illustrations enhance the story by showing that the kangaroo is truly a grasshopper, so we know the turtle is simply being imaginative. The language is interesting in this story, but it is not as descriptive as it could have been. The illustrations were merely drawn on top of a white background, so the reader can focus on the main image of the page, but I would have liked to read more imaginative writing to accompany this story. This is one of the cutest children's books I've read in a while! I enjoyed the interaction between the girl and the turtle early on, especially her reading to the turtle. When the turtle digs a hole and takes off to different countries, but really across the backyard, it's full of imagination and adventure. The girl's delight in finding the turtle again is sweet, and something children can relate to. Cuteness. ( )
