The Chalet School and the Lintons and A Rebel at the Chalet School were originally published as a single book, also titled The Chalet School and the Lintons. The two books really should be read together, as the Joyce/Thekla storyline extends across both. Furthermore, they pick up the Thekla storyline that was dropped halfway through Exploits of the Chalet Girls. I like this pair of books, although they are not among my very favourites. We get to see the staff chatting with each other, and their personalities are becoming more established. Jo is gradually maturing, and starting to develop more of a sense of when she should speak up, and when to keep quiet. But honestly, how can a seventeen year old girl not notice that her sister is six months pregnant? inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
When they arrive at The Chalet School, the Lintons are as different as two sisters can be. Gentle and thoughtful Gillian soon settles down and makes friends, but wilful Joyce refuses to obey school rules or respect classroom honour. Problems come to a head when Joyce organizes a midnight feast. Inga biblioteksbeskrivningar kunde hittas. |

Gillian and Joyce Linton join the Chalet School by the Tiern See in Austria, when their mother is taken to the sanatorium at the Sonnalpe, suffering with TB. Gillian is a likeable girl of 15 who takes far too much responsibility for her younger sister. Joyce is lazy, rebellious, and does not much like the high standards of both work and behaviour expected at the Chalet School. She manages to find some weaker girls who will follow her mad ideas.. and, naturally, clashes with both staff and prefects.
Some good characterisation and various interesting sub-plots. Pleasant ultra-light reading for anyone who enjoys this genre.
