We have the 5th edition. This book is like the Maui bible! It has everything in it from snorkeling spots to restaurants. It was because of this book that we discovered the Olivine pools. Don't leave home without it! ( )

We're off to Maui in a couple of months, so I bought this travel guide to do some research. This was the highest rated and most popular travel book on Maui, and for good reason. It is a full color guide (beautiful pictures!), and it includes information on must-see attractions, activities, restaurants, hotels, beaches, waterfalls, maps... pretty much everything. I especially like the extensive section detailing the Road to Hana, mile by mile. As for the accuracy of the book, I don't know yet, as we haven't gone on our trip yet, but for planning, it has been great. ( )

The maps were the most useful part of this book for me. His taste in restaurants was different from ours and we got tired of his bossy attitude about things one MUST see in Hawaii. Not everybody wants to see the same stuff. His mile by mile descriptions of the road to Hana are probably of interest to some people, but not us. Thank god I've done that and I never have to do it again. Also, he was just wrong about the water quality around Kihei. It's great. ( )

Fantastic guidebook to the island of Maui. Provides detailed information on all aspects of the island relevant to visitors: attractions, activities, beaches, restaurants and accommodations. The restaurant and beach recommendations in particular are excellent. Otherwise, the guide is mostly accurate, with some notable exceptions. For example, a couple of the snorkeling spots they recommend in South Maui (The Fishbowl and The Aquarium) are closed from August 1, 2008 to July 31, 2010 and this is actively enforced by rangers if you try to follow their instructions to locate the trails to these spots.
