This book follows the smallest of the Russian dolls, and her adventures before returning (miraculously) to her family that is now owned by a little girl. All the different pieces are named and considered sisters. The Littlest Matryoshka is average to me. It was a little bit boring in my opinion. The illustration is good. I could have made a better choice as far as finding something historical, but if I wanted to incorporate this in my class lesson, I would have the students do a project about the history of Matryoshka dolls. Sweet enough, but the most interesting bit imo was the author's note, that reveals that nesting dolls were first made in the 1800s in China, and are now made in India, Japan, China, Poland, and other countries. besides Russia. This "fairytale" tells a story about the littlest of a set of nesting dolls with beautiful illustrations and text that illuminates Russian history and culture for young children. This book, with its happy ending, is a fun for children. It is a good resource for Art class and World Culture. This book is about a set of Matryoshka that are sisters. They are traveling to america to be sold in a shop. when ariving at the shop the littlest one end up out the shopps door and carried far away from her sisters. the book describes her journey finding her sisters. In the mean time the sisters end up getting bought by a little girl. In the end the little girl finds the missing sister and everyone is reunited.
