This is a Russian tale on Cinderella. Instead, it is Vassilisa who has to deal with her cruel stepmother and stepsisters. They send her to Baba Yaga, who instead of eating her, ends up helping her out in the end. Cinderella is one of my favorite childhood tales. I loved this Russian version, and the sketches to the book are wonderful. I would use this book to connect it to a lesson on folklore or an art lesson on sketching. I could even give my students the history of the witch, Baba Yaga. ( )
