Bear's woodland animal friends help him through a typical illness (stuffy nose, achy head). He feels better when he wakes up from a long nap, ready to play, but then his friends feel sick, so of course he takes care of them in turn. ( ) Bear's friends want to play but Bear is sick. Bear's friends come to his cave to take care of him while he is sick. When Bear feels better, his friends get sick so he takes care of them. This book is a good book to teach students about empathy and the importance of friendship. It also shows how it is for someone to take care of you when you are sick or feeling down. This is a good example of a picture book/fantasy/fable because it talks about a bear being sick and all his friends taking care of him but it is true in many ways because shows how when being sick it's nice to be taken care of and people are there for you to make you feel better. It's a fun book for children to read because they can relate to it in many ways of being the one who has been sick or being the one who wants to take care of someone they love who is sick. Media: acrylic paint Genre: Fantasy Medium: acrylic paint This story is about a bear that becomes sick, and so his friends take care of him until he is better. But after bear is better, all of his friends get sick, so bear promises to make them feel better. This story has rhymes, and beautifully colored pages. I liked this story because it is about friends taking care of each other. Since the book rhymes, it would be a good book to help younger students learn to read. I would use this book in a first or second grade classroom, probably during cold season, just because my students might feel lie they could relate to it.
"The language, with its strong rhythm, rhyme and repetitive structure, is very appealing and lends itself well to activities that build phonemic awareness. The underlying messages about respecting and valuing others are positive. Furthermore, the stories avoid triteness." "The rhyming text and oft-repeated refrain (Bear Feels Sick) make this book irresistible when read aloud. What more could anyone ask when under the weather than a snug house and plenty of TLC?"
