This story about Pollyana shows her optimism in the face of trouble and the importance of finding happiness and gratitude even in hard times. ( )

Rebecca Burns does a fine job narrating this children's classic. Overall, I enjoyed it but the (overly) optimistic Pollyanna character is a little grating and to my mind, completely unrealistic. If you thought Louisa May Alcott's books were too sweet, don't read these! ( )

First published in 1913! One of Ms. Gregorich's all-time favorite books! Pollyanna has gotten a bad rap!

I didn’t have high hopes going into this book. It was free on Kindle and I set myself a goal of reading more classics. I had heard of it but amazingly, hadn’t read it as a child. The synopsis really doesn’t do it justice. To me, it was magic. Pollyanna is an EXTRAORDINARY character. To say this is a story for children isn’t fair - I find that I enjoyed it far more as an adult than I would have as a child. ( )
