A very challenging book for children! The story is about a magician who plays hat tricks with two characters and the reader. The reader is the shadow shown in the book. The magician constantly gives scenarios of what color a persons hat could be and allows the reader a chance to figure it out. Although this book has 3 1/2 stars, I do not think it deserves that much. The book was very challenging g to read because it gave the response of what the "shadow" which is the reader, should say. What if the reader did not answer the same? It does, howeber, allow the reader to really think and challenge themselves. This would be a great book for gifted students. ( )

This book challenges the reader to see patterns and probability. This book allows the reader to feel included as the reader takes the role of the shadow man. The fact of feeling included in the book can make the reader feel comfortable to answer those challenging questions concerning which color had he or she is wearing based on the other characters in the book. Overall, this book challenged me and I would love to see how my future students react and solve this wonderful problem. ( )

This was an interesting book to read. It honestly left me flustered during reading and after. Children are given hats and they must determine the color of their hat based on the others around them hats. This book really makes you think and is a text you must read slow to understand the information being presented. After reading I definitely understand why gifted children would love this book. ( )

This was such a fun, challenging book to read! It definitely hurts your brain, and you need to be able to concentrate in order to understand what is happening throughout. This book is a giant brain teaser, and it makes you focus and think. Gifted students would really be challenged by this. I loved it! ( )

This book is very interesting to read and think about. It is written for younger children, however I feel that the content of the book could be very difficult for all younger children to grasp. The book does start with very simple and easy problems that the reader has to solve and figure out and by the end of the book the problems become very complex and really challenges the reader. Although I do feel the concepts may be difficult for some younger children, I do feel that it will challenge any reader and make them think outside of the box in order to solve the solutions. The author does a nice job making the book sound like an actual conversation between 4 people so it is fun to follow along. I would love to take a group of third or fourth graders and sit down and read them this book and see them figure out these problems. ( )
