Rancher Hicks drives to Sleepy Gulch for some excitement, but it's his wife back at the ranch who has the really exciting day.

This was such a cute book! It was just fun to read in general. I love how the town nothing ever happened except for a 5 minute rain, but the wife was getting a whole other town built on their ranch. If that could only happen in real like that baby animals and getting rich at every turn would be so great!! A future farmer could dream right?! ( )

This is not the best book I've ever read, and I may donate it to the school.

The rancher goes to his "sleepy" town for excitement - and wow, what an exciting day he has! Why, there's a checker game that just made a king, and it only took two weeks! The whole town turned out to see a turtle cross the road!

Meanwhile, his wife "misses everything" because she's stuck at home while more and more farm animals give birth and boring stuff like lottery tickets and oil wells happen. Shucks.

There's not much to it, but it is pretty funny the first few times. I think it'll get more use in a classroom than in a fairly small family, though. ( )
