This was a wonderful book and I just wish I could have read it when I was younger. I loved the characters and the way the story evolves as Nobody grows up. In the end, I wanted to follow Bod in his adventures outside the graveyard but I think Neil Gaiman chose the right occasion to finish the story.
After all, Nobody Owens wasn't a kid anymore, he was a young man with the desire to discover the world.
I miss the characters already and I will surely reread the book in the future.
A new favorite! :)

To me this was just ok. I didn't dislike it, but I also didn't love it either. It kind of felt a bit drawn out. It was like it was a short story that was made into a much longer story with out really adding more to the story if you know what I mean. Anyway, it is about this boy who's parents are killed and he manages to escape the house and makes his way to the graveyard. The man that killed his parents goes looking for him to kill the boy too, but when he goes to the graveyard, the ghosts there protect him. He is then raised in the graveyard by the ghosts and the caretaker until one day he finally meets the man who killed his parents. ( )

solid mythology that wasnt too explained had a lot of layers and seemed to fit together cohesively ( )

The version of the audio book that I listened to has a great cast of readers. ( )

In anyone else's hands, except perhaps Ray Bradbury, this would either be a sickeningly sweet confection, or it would simply fall apart under the weight of all its improbability.

Instead, this is a murder mystery/coming of age/fantasy novel that carries a whole lot of magic in its pages.

I'll not say more than that, because I firmly believe everyone should go into a Gaiman book with no expectations, and let him wash the story over you. He's a freaking master. ( )

Gaiman writes with charm and humor, and again he has a real winner.

Like a bite of dark Halloween chocolate, this novel proves rich, bittersweet and very satisfying.

This is fine work, from beginning to end, and the best bedtime story read-aloud material I've encountered in a long time. Can't wait until my daughter's old enough to read this to.

When the chilling moments do come, they are as genuinely frightening as only Gaiman can make them, and redeem any shortcomings.

While “The Graveyard Book” will entertain people of all ages, it’s especially a tale for children. Gaiman’s remarkable cemetery is a place that children more than anyone would want to visit. They would certainly want to look for Silas in his chapel, maybe climb down (if they were as brave as Bod) to the oldest burial chamber, or (if they were as reckless) search for the ghoul gate. Children will appreciate Bod’s occasional mistakes and bad manners, and relish his good acts and eventual great ones. The story’s language and humor are sophisticated, but Gaiman respects his readers and trusts them to understand.

Fortinbras Bartleby, ten years old when he had died (of consumption, he had told Bod, who had mistakenly believed for several years that Fortinbras had been eaten by lions or bears, and was extremely disappointed to learn it was merely a disease), now apologized to Bod.

“And for that reason, if for no other, it is vital that the child be raised with as little disruption as possible to the, if you’ll forgive the expression, the life of the graveyard.”
