This book brilliantly tells the story of Alice Roosevelt and her upbringing as a outgoing and "peculiar" young girl. Growing up with her father, Theodore Roosevelt, he always wondered "what to do about Alice." She was not the typical lady like woman at the time, which arose lots of concerns from her father and everyone else. Though by the end of the novel she successfully shows how she can still maintain her quirky and fun personality while be successful in politics alongside her father. Overall this book was a fun and entertaining way to tell of influential women in history. ( )

Such a cute story about President Theodore Roosevelt's daughter, Alice. She was extremely curious about the world from the beginning. Alice caused "trouble" for her father her whole life, but she did it in style. She was different from the norm, she didn't want people feeling sorry for her. She was a light to everyone around her, and certainly inspiring. Her story is so fun and expressive, she seems like the kind of girl I would want to be friends with. ( )

Theodore Roosevelt could handle anything- except his daughter Alice. Wanting to "eat the world up," Alice was a rule breaker who defied people's expectations and broke the mold of what was expected of women during that time. She taught herself multiple subjects, traveled the world, and was an advisor to her father during both of his presidencies.

With vibrant illustrations and fun examples of the adventures Alice went on, this story is a great piece to demonstrate to girls that they can think outside the box and do what they want, not just what people want them to do. I think this book is empowering for all genders and ages, as it tells people to follow the beat of their own drum and get as much out of life as you can. ( )

This biography about Alice Roosevelt is truly amazing. I did not know anything about Alice Roosevelt before reading this story. I really enjoyed the illustrations that Fotheringham had done. This story tells the life story of Alice from the time she was a little girl until she was a young adult. Alice never once let what others said about her get into her head and made her loose he fun and adventurous side. Although she was questioned many times about it she proved that it was part of her identity. ( )

Top 100 pick because:

A fierce and feisty female not many have likely heard about in detail, if in any detail. The artwork matches the tone of the text and narrative, as well as the quirky and strong-willed personality of Alice. People learn plenty about Teddy Roosevelt so it's nice to get information about someone else who contributed to his success. She's such a retro feminist icon! She was fabulous and allowed to be free and it makes me like Teddy Rosevelt more for letting his daughter be herself-clever, interesting, & extra. ( )
