Fay decides to have one last fling, one brief encounter, before she ties the knot for better for worse the following weekend. And the wedding itself will be just as unorthodox, for, in a bid to be modern and grown up, the bride and groom invite a potentially explosive mix of ex-boyfriends and girlfriends, as well as several irritating in-laws. Fay is determined to have a good time, but there's one person present who has other ideas . . . Jane Moore's antennae are perfectly tuned to what men and women really thought of each other in the noughties. THE EX-FILES is a bracing, witty look at contemporary relationships that will make you laugh and, possibly, make you think as well.… (mer)

Fay Parker accepts Mark Hawkins's marriage proposal because she has a nagging worry she may otherwise never get married. They plan a lavish wedding at a chateau in the south of France, and Fay keeps trying to persuade herself she's wildly happy. When Mark invites two of his ex-girlfriends to the wedding, Fay, in the spirit of fun and fairness, decides to invite two of her ex-boyfriends. Then another guest of the groom shows up who proves to be a real shock to the bride. The path to the altar is really getting rocky.

I enjoyed the snarkiness of The Ex Files, since I don't like the sweet type of chick lit with the oh-so-adorable heroine. None of the characters here is entirely sympathetic. They all act rotten at some point or another. I did get a bit irritated at the flashbacks which showcase Mark and his best friend Brian's adolescent sexual exploits, which can't be interesting to anyone but a teenage boy. Still, this was an entertaining book. I hadn't read anything by Jane Moore before, but I noticed the thrift shop where I found The Ex Files also had Fourplay, her first novel, so I may pick that up too if they still have it. ( )

If you are going to read chick lit make it a book by a British author. This is a fun book that was like a how to for how not to pick a partner to marry and how to definitely not plan the the wedding. Yes it was predictable, but it was entertaining. ( )

I found this book to be incredibly predictable and a little dull. It was well written but slightly pointless in it's goals. I was wondering why the jacket praised Moore's other work instead. ( )
