"Stonecoat" tells the story of women's great and sacred power for conception and birth. Women are shown honor and reverence for their life-giving and child-bearing abilities, and menstruation is recognized as a powerful and sacred time. In this myth, seven women in their "moontime" defeat the frightening and dangerous evil of Stonecoat, a mysterious and deadly being. The seven women stand in unity and remain strong together, each one reminding Stonecoat that they are sacred as he attempts to pass. They protect their tribe and village, and Stonecoat teaches them the medicine for all kinds of sickness before he dies. A collection of Native American tales from all different tribes that are unique in that they are all centered around women. The stories are divided by geographical area that the tribes inhabited. These women are often cunning, powerful, and independent even though there is still a strong emphasis on marriage and male partnership. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
