Chantecler the cock believes that it is his crowing every morning that makes the sun rise and without him there would be no daylight. One day a comely hen pheasant flies into his yard to escape a hunter. Chantecler is smitten by her and crows that he is the dawn bringer. The owls and the cat would prefer to have more hours of nighttime to prowl and hunt so they conspire to do away with the cock. You'll have to read the play to find out how it ends. The spirit of Cyrano de Bergerac is reborn in the form of an heroic and stubborn rooster, who is convinced (and may convince you) that his daily salute to the dawn is what actually makes the sun rise. His eloquence is rivaled only by that of Cyrano himself, and indeed this play depends on the sublimity of Rostand's verbal artistry, which shines through any translation. You can't resist reading parts of it aloud, with or without an audience. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
