I bought this small hardcover totally on the strength of its lovely cover. The author is from Perth, Western Australia and this proved a surprising read. It wasn't always a happy tale because life isn't always happy, but I enjoyed looking through the window into Carolyn's life. Her diary, in that each entry is dated, reads more like a journal. There's more here than just daily jottings. The author openly shares with us her thoughts, reservations and insights. She talks of her success and failure trying to raise a garden in Western Australian, and reveals a tangle of daily thoughts as they tumble around in her head, like clothes in a dryer. We slowly come to realise that there's something wrong with her son, something not quite right and I felt the struggles to come to terms with these ongoing difficulties and the set backs in her, much loved garden were linked. The story is a quiet one, easily read, very honest. I was totally absorbed. ( ) inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
Loose paragraphs you can shuffle about. You can pick them up and put them down again in any order you like. Photo albums are for happy families. Children, grown-up, pass them on to their children. When you are thirty-one years old, and the soaring curve of your carefully planned future suddenly freezes into stillness against the sky, photo albums are the first thing to go.
