When they discover a smuggling ring that is kidnapping human women and selling them in slavery to the jit’suku, Son of Amber and Commandant Michael goes undercover with his XO, Colonel Leah Blackfoot posing as his submissive, a role he has dreamed of her being in for too long.

Leah has always been anything but submissive, but playing the part with Michael as Dominant feels more than natural – it feels like home to her. She has long loved her commanding officer from afar, but knows it is hopeless to dream of a long-term future with a Son of Amber.

It is hard to believe that Bianca D’Arc was first published in February of 2006. In just 21 months, she has published 15 books, and has many more in the pipeline with upcoming release dates. I have to say, it warms the cockles of this fan girl’s book loving little heart when a favorite author writes so prolifically without sacrificing quality, such as with D’Arc.

She has several series out in a variety of romantic subgenres, and they are all fantastic. The Sons of Amber series satisfies my Science Fiction cravings in a big way. This neat little series is based on a futuristic universe in which human-kind has been left ravaged by the war with an alien race, the jit’suku, who released a deadly virus that eliminated the male gender from the human species. In an ingenious plan to perpetuate the human race, Dr. Amber finds a way to create male humans with the very best DNA, programming the men as Riskers, Dominants, etc. to fulfill the different needs of the race. These Sons of Amber then provide their services to human women, impregnating as many as possible, both by natural and artificial means. But something unexpected occurred when these men began to fall in love and wanted to settle down.

In the second edition of this series, we see more of Michael, the title character who we first met in Ezekiel. As intriguing as he was in that first story, he blew my socks off in this one! He is just the right balance of Dominant Alpha Male, caring, considerate man, and conscientious leader. As a Dominant, he has needs that go far beyond what Leah may be used to, but he is always conscious of her needs as well.

As for Leah, well, she is a perfect match for Michael, even if she herself doesn’t realize it at first. Willing to sacrifice everything for just a small piece of the man she loves, her dreams are realized beyond expectation when Michael, in true Dominant fashion, claims her for his own.

Fans of D’Arc’s books are becoming a bit spoiled as this author has begun to incorporate some great twists in her stories, and Michael doesn’t disappoint in this. I thought I would say that lovers of Sci-Fi will greatly enjoy this book, and while that is true, it is limiting. Because Sons of Amber, Book 2: Michael will appeal to more than just Science Fiction readers – it will delight anyone who enjoys a wonderful romance whose focus is the characters in the book, with the genre merely a backdrop to the love story.
