Pinky's favorite color is pink, and his best friend, Rex, is a girl. Kevin, the third-grade bully, says that makes Pinky a sissy. Deep down, Pinky thinks Kevin is wrong, but he's still worried. Does Pinky have to give up his favorite things, and worse, does he have to give up his best friend?

This book is a great book to read to students about bullying. In this book, Pinky is a boy who likes pink and gets bullied for it. He was told that if he liked pink so much he would turn pink. After that comment, he immediately rethought a lot of things and wanted to change everything about him but he liked pink so much. It's a great book for 2nd-3rd graders as they could independently read to teachers as they assist them as well. ( )

This book is good for students who are learning how to read more complex and dense readings. I would say this book would be good for 2nd or 3rd grade.

This book is about a boy named Pinky who is bullied for liking the color pink. The bully says very mean things and says that pink is only a girl color. Pinky goes home and says that he wants to be called Billy. He got rid of all his pink toys. He didn't want to be a girl and was worried that if he kept liking pink he might become one. He talked to Mrs. Morgan his neighbor and she explained that you should just be yourself and not change for anyone else because people come and go but you always have yourself and you shouldn't change who you are to please other people.
I would use this book to educate my students about bullying and how hurtful it can be to others. This might pair well with being yourself and the importance of each individual student. I would have students read this on their own time. I think its too long for a read aloud but would be just right for students who are good readers but want a bit of a challenge. ( )

I think this book would be great for lower/mid (2nd or 3rd grade) elementary. The story is about a boy named Pinky, his favorite color is pink, and his best friend names Rex. Along the way, there is a boy named Kevin who bullies Pinky for his name, who he is friends with, and the fact that his favorite color is Pink. This takes students through the lesson of bullies and how to overcome them! ( )

This book is the first children's chapter book I have ever read for our reviews, so I really liked it. Usually, the books are just one big story not broken up into chapters. I liked the flow of the book because it was broken into chapters. It is a really inspiring book for a child who is being bullied. The book makes the reader realize you are amazing just how you are and no one can tell you different. Don't change your ways just because someone doesn't agree with what you enjoy, just because they don't like it doesn't mean anyone else won't enjoy it and love you for you (just as the story portrayed). The character in the beginning of the book was being made fun of because he likes pink and hangs out with girls. Until, later in the story he realizes he has to be who he wants to be to be happy. He eventually develops courage and stands up to his bully and tells the bully to leave him alone. His character traits changed tremendously from the beginning of the book, at first he was nervous and scared of the bully but later he stood up to him and realized the bully is just jealous. ( )
