[Madame Bovary] TO MARIE-ANTOINE-JULES SENARD, MEMBER OF THE PARIS BAR, EX-PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY, AND FORMER [Madame Bovary] MINISTER OF THE INTERIOR / DEAR AND ILLUSTRIOUS FRIEND-- Permit me to inscribe your name at the head of this book, and above its dedication; for it is to you, before all, that I owe its publication. Reading over your magnificent defence, my work has acquired for myself, as it were, an unexpected authority. Accept, then, here, the homage of my gratitude, which, how great soever it is, will never attain the height of your eloquence and your devotion. GUSTAVE FLAUBERT

Inledande ord |
Information från den engelska sidan med allmänna fakta. Redigera om du vill anpassa till ditt språk. [Madame Bovary] We were in class when the head-master came in, followed by a "new fellow," not wearing the school uniform, and a school servant carrying a large desk. [Salammbô] It was at Megara, a suburb of Carthage, in the gardens of Hamilcar. [Sentimental Education] On the 15th of September, 1840, about six o'clock in the morning, the ville de Montereau, just on the point of starting, was sending forth great whirlwinds of smoke, in front of the Quai St. Bernard. [The Temptation of Saint Anthony] It is in the Thebaïd, on the heights of a mountain, where a platform, shaped like a crescent, is surrounded by huge stones. [Bouvard and Pécuchet] As there were thirty-three degrees of heat the boulevard Bourdon was absolutely deserted.
