In 1947, the U.S. Army left behind a secret when they closed Ft. Miles, Delaware. A threat so deadly, they buried it 1000 feet down in the Atlantic Ocean. Now, sixty years later, an oil rig drilling off the coast of Delaware has hit something. Within hours, crew members are dying from a mysterious illness that kills unmercifully. On the opposite coast, Justin Flannigan, an estranged epidemiologist is visited by the director of the CDC who convinces him to come to Delaware to investigate the bizarre illness. But shortly after he begins his investigation, he gets another visit. This time from an eccentric old man who claims to know the origin of the deadly contagion, and soon, Justin begins to suspect there is more to it than what first appeared. It is evolving swiftly, becoming more deadly with each passing hour. As the illness spreads to the general population, Justin realizes that this one old man may hold the key not only to his survival, but to the survival of the entire planet.… (mer)

I liked the idea of this book, who doesn't like a strange space virus? However the writing put me off, it was far too truncated, chopping and changing scenes and POV all over the place. Lots of, "well Bob, as you know, I told Bill earlier about the blah blah", to catch characters up on a plot that just moved too fast and was disjointed. I also couldn't get on with the odd asterisks at the end of a scene to show someone's thoughts, or the italics for the last sentence, often with an exclamation mark. It seemed far too OTT and disrupted my reading. Admittedly, this book is 10 years old, so I hope the writer has improved since then. I would read a more recent book for comparison. ( )

Reads like a made-for-tv-movie. Quick scenes, a small number of characters. A couple of villains and a plausible plot. I recommend this book because it is a very quick read. I read it for free on my Kindle in less than 3 days. I wouldn't pay more than the cost of a paperback book for it though. ( )

This short thriller has a good idea for its plot, but it is so unfilled-out that it reads the way I imagine a book proposal might. Chapters are only a couple of pages each, jumping back and forth between characters and locations so quickly there is no time for momentum to build. In most cases where something shocking or exciting happens, the shock and excitement are described, but not what caused it. Interesting documents are "reacted to", but it would be so much more satisfying to be able to read them and make that conclusion for ourselves. There are also gaps in the action which could be filled in to increase anticipation and suspense, and the characters' back stories are too skimpy to help make sense of their action. The book also has various punctuation and other editing errors.

Normally I wouldn't finish reading, or spend time reviewing, something which needs so much work, but the plot really could be made into a dynamite thriller. I really hope the author will do that some day. ( )
