This is a very fun book for young readers! The author, Heilgman, makes the book very interesting because she creates it as a narrative, but also incredibly informational. Heilgman tells a story of a classroom that keeps a butterfly in a jar. The author walks the readers through the different stages of the life of a butterfly, all while continuing with the narration from the "classroom" in the story. What I really enjoyed about this book is the deep amount of vocabulary. The vocabulary is explained in such a way that is tangible for young readers. This would be a great book to include in the classroom during an animal science unit. It could be a great way to make a life-cycle unit because Heiligman in-depthly describes the butterflies' life cycle. ( )

The book Caterpillar to Butterfly is a book about the life cycle of a caterpillar. A caterpillar wanders into an elementary school classroom. The class then captures the caterpillar and watches it turn into a butterfly, but eventually the class lets the butterfly go. This book is told from a child’s point of view which can make it more interesting and engaging for kids. This is a great book to use for teachers who need to teach their students about life cycles, metamorphosis, and so on. I like this book because it is an easy read with great visuals and even better information. ( )

Genre: Nonfiction[return]Reading Level: grades 1-3[return]Summary:[return] The narrator of the story tells a story about how a little caterpillar comes into a classroom in a jar and the whole class gets to watch its metamorphosis. The narrator leads the reader through the different changes that the butterfly goes through but is written from a child’s point of view. The children are very excited to see the transformation but in the end the whole class is sad to see the butterfly go.[return]Commentary:[return]This book would be helpful because of the information that is provided about the metamorphosis of a butterfly. It’s not overwhelming with content and big words to confuse the reader. The information make up for what a textbook could lack.

This book is about the process of a caterpillar changing into a butterfly. The book tells the story from a students perspective of the process. It was a fun book that I feel would go well with science units. ( )
