The charismatic movement of the past quarter-century has made an impact on the church unparalleled in history. But one legacy of the movement is confusion and mushy thinking. In Charismatic Chaos, John F. MacArthur calls for biblical evaluation and analyzes the doctrinal differences between charismatics and non-charismatics in the light of Scripture. "My principal concern," writes John MacArthur, "is to call the church to a firm commitment to the purity and authority of the Scriptures, and thereby to strengthen the unity of the true church." To tough questions that seem to divide, Charismatic Chaos provides tougher answers that strive to unite. This book tackles such questions as - Is experience a valid test of truth? - Does God still give revelation? - Prophets, fanatics, or heretics? - Does God still heal? - What should we think of the Signs and Wonders movement? - Does the Bible promise health and wealth?… (mer)

Wonderful expose of the Charismatic movement including a through history from its inception. I encourage both Pentecostals and non-Pentecostals to give this an objective read. ( )

In this book, John MacArthur addresses the practices and theological underpinnings of the charismatic movement in Christianity. His approach is biblical, and he discusses the various arguments that charismatics give for their beliefs using both Scripture and common sense.

As a former charismatic, I found this book enormously well-researched and right-on with its descriptions of the charismatic mindset. MacArthur deals with every major issue of the movement, including an excellent chapter on the validity of faith healing, and is careful to quote charismatics to allow them to speak for themselves. I cannot recommend this book enough to anyone who is curious about the pentecostal/charismatic movement in the church today. ( )

Be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father; and be subject to one another in the fear of Christ.

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

To my friend Jacob Kusmich Dukhonchenko - defender of the truth, man of God, faithful pastor, leader of the church in the Ukraine, who endured a half century of communist oppression, a decade of imprisonment, all the while standing firm for our Christ - and who may now be fighting the greatest battle in a free USSR to preserve sound doctrine and the purity of the church. The wall of communism kept the church confined but also protected it from heresy. Now the wall is down and he is set for the challenge of building a new wall of protection against the influx of false teaching.
