Talkin' about Bessie is a story about the first African American woman who learned how to fly. This book is fiction, but based on an incredible true story told through the perspective of many. This would be great for intermediate readers ince it is a very long and wordy picture book.

A story about Bessie Coleman told through the eyes of friends and family each page having a different narrator. This story has great details about Bessie's life and is told in such an interesting way by incorporating all the different points of views of her friends and family. This was a great read with a lot of information and the illustrations are really beautiful. I would recommend this book for 1st grade and up. ( )

The life of the famous Bessie Coleman, the first black woman to fly a plane. Bessie was determined to make something of herself. She knew that life was about more than picking cotton and doing people’s laundry. Everyone that came in contact with Bessie knew she was made to be great. I enjoyed reading her story because it was told by those closest to her. From her father, mother, and siblings to news reporters and fans. The title fits this book perfectly. ( )
