The Lunatic Cafe (Anita Blake Vampire Hunter) (urspr publ 1996; utgåvan 2005)

Another quick, fun read in the Anita Blake series. This book we learn more about werewolves when Anita helps the police investigate lycanthropes who have gone missing. Once again, she proves what a badass she is. And that while she has a certain code she lives by, she isn't above killing in cold blood when she tells someone she will kill them if she gets the chance.

She also has some decisions to make. She's been dating a werewolf, but can she handle his monstrous side? he is any better than the vampire who wants to woo her? The werewolf only hunts things like deer, but apparently under the right (wrong?) conditions, he can lose control of his beast.

I guess future books let us know what she decides. ( )

While the actual story/plot of this book was intriguing (disappearing shapeshifters), I found the romance subplot just kind of overshadowed it. I wasn't as interested in the romance as I was in the rest of the story, and there was too much of it. Still like the characters (although Anita *can* be a bit annoying at times). I'll likely take a little break before I go for another one, but I did like it. Just needed a better balance. ( )

I actually really liked this book, though Anita seemed hypocritical at the beginning. Richard for being an Alpha werewolf is kind of a whiny baby, too much of a goody goody for my taste. I think it's all his disapproving and whining that got to me. I had though that it was the swan who was involved in the disppearances of the lycanthropes, but I didnt think that the police in that county were involved I just thought they were a bunch of biggots to begin with. ( )

God, I hate Richard with all my heart. He's the only thing I don't like about the series, but I get that he's a necessity. ( )
