This is a story about the Egyptian God Ra. The story explains how Ra created everything on Earth, made himself a Pharaoh, and ruled on Earth for a thousand years. At the end of the thousand years Ra had become weak and the God Osiris decided he wanted to rule on Earth so he sent his wife Isis to find a way for him to take Ra's place. Isis determined that if she could just find our Ra's secret name it would hold the power to put Osiris in his place. Once Ra tells Osiris his secret name he loses his power and is sent to rule from the skies while Osiris and Isis rule from Earth.
Personal Reaction: I thought this was a great book to introduce children to Egyptian culture. I personally enjoy the story of Ra.
Classroom Extensions:
1.) I would ask the students what they would create if they had Ra's power and have them draw and name it.
2.) Have the students create their own Egyptian God masks using paper plates, markers, crayon, colored pencils, jewels, and feathers.
3.) Have the students gather three additional facts about Ra, Osiris, or Isis. They may also chose a different Egyptian God if they would like. (
