I didn't think I would like this book and I passed on it whenever it would come up on my recommendations but one day I needed something to read so I gave it a chance. It was surprisingly not bad and I liked it. I haven't read a plot like this before or somebody having Kaylee's gift. It was a very easy and fun read. ( ![]() This book was pretty exciting I loved the characters, and I loved the storyline, and I love the main characters, and I loved how it made me want to continue on with the series. I love Rachel Vincent's books. The first book in the Soul Screamer series is about Kaylee, a teenager who is confused because she can predict when someone is going to die soon. When it happens, she needs to scream. Then she finds out that she is a Bean Sidhe, a banshee. While she's struggling with everything that comes with being non human, teenage girls in her town start to die before their time. This very light mystery is a nice touch in the book (I mean light as in this isn't a mystery book). While I didn't find My Soul to Take earth-shattering, I enjoyed it. I liked that it wasn't heavy on the romance, that Kaylee, in spite of her particular talent, is as confused as any teenager and that the story doesn't gloss over death, the price to pay when you don't respect death's rules and difficult relationships. This book was fast paced and easy to read in one sitting. It was just the right length to tell us all we needed to know without extra fillers. I haven't read a book about banshees before so I thought the idea was pretty cool. I liked Kaylee, the main character, because she was nice to everyone, even though some people didn't treat her very well. Her connection with Nash was sweet and I like seeing them together. Her best friend Emma was great, she knew Kaylee has anxiety attacks and sees people's deaths and never thought she was crazy. She stood by her and that was awesome. I will definitely be reading the next book in the series to see what happens next! So. This book wasn't actively bad, but it wasn't actively good. The mythology of the banshee sounded pretty cool and fresh, and the writing was readable. But it was terribly predictable, and there was nothing special about the writing- not particularly witty or insightful or poetic. It was also very tropey (mysterious connection to super hot guy, hot best friend that incites jealousy, mean girl) of teen drama, though I will say it is one of the better tropey teen books.
Great book. Refreshing new concept in paranormal YA! Ingår i
Kaylee has become a "soul screamer"--she knows when someone is going to die and is compelled to scream, as if in warning. But her classmates keep dying! Inga biblioteksbeskrivningar kunde hittas. |
