I think if you compared success with talent as a ratio, Ben Stiller would be at the top of the list. Through his skill as a screenwriter and director (and apparently pal to everyone in Hollywood) he has parlayed his modest acting skills into a solid career. And he is willing to do anything, as Tropic Thunder proves. There is something here to offend everyone. Jack Black also proves that if Deliverance is ever re-made, he would be good for the Ned Beatty role. But moving on. Along the way there are a few laugh out loud moments courtesy of the sheer ridiculousness of it all. And the fact that the actors seem to be having a hell of a good time. Tom Cruise, almost unrecognizable as a megalomaniac producer is sensational. About the only way the film doesn't manage to offend is in its treatment of women--since there are hardly any here. This makes a good late night alcohol-fueled watch. Just don't make me do it again. ( )
