Another Inevitable Mini-Jumbo Compendium of Hellish Cartoons by Child-At-Heart Matt Groening, author of Love Is Hell, Work Is Hell, School Is Hell, etc., etc., etc. This pint-size yet chunky cartoon book contains dozens of zany, daffy, downright insolent comic strips-specially designed to be read under the covers late at night with a secret flashlight and a bowl of ice cream for nourishment. Don't let Mom catch you. Childhood Is Hell is jam-packed with 48 of the wittiest and weirdest cartoons from Matt Groening's syndicated "Life in Hell" "RM" comic strip (seen weekly in the hippest newspapers from coast to coast). Not only do you get all 25 chapters of the painfully funny "Childhood Is Hell" maxiseries, you also get a whole bunch more bonus cartoons -- at practically no apparent added cost. Childhood Is Hell may not be all that cute and cuddly, but its peculiar insights could save you thousands of dollars in annoying therapy bills, as well as convulse you with childlike laughter and merriment.… (mer)

Matt Groening ‘s “Hell” series of comics is in a class of its own. The drawings are primitive – most of the characters are rabbits with big (Simpson-esque) eyes and buck teeth-- and the avant-garde humor is highly irreverent, yet right on target.

In this small book, Groening explores childhood. Titles of the comics include: How to be a Turbulent 2-Year-Old; The 16 Types of Moms” (including Worry mom, Fun mom, Depressed mom, Martyr mom…); The 16 Types of Sisters (Bossy, The Brat, Ms. Perfect, Disgusted, The Spooky Poet, Sulky…); The Childhood Trauma Checklist; How to Be a Naughty Nine Year Old; How to Be a Teenage Twelve Year Old; How to Handle Problem Parents; and favorite children’s books (The Boy Who Cried Wolf and the Parents Who Laughed at Him; The Little Engine that Couldn’t; The Little Child Who Was Always Called Clumsy; and The Ugly Duckling – What Really Happened).

This book is not for kids; but it’s a hilarious way for adults to remember what it was like to be one. ( )

A great book of cartoons about childhood- some of the most honest cartoons I've seen about what it's like to be a kid. "Your Childhood Trauma Checklist" is priceless. I wish I'd had this book as a teenager. ( )
